GERTIES is proud to offer a simple, non-surgical treatment that is effective in smoothing facial lines.

The fine line reduction procedure is quick and virtually painless, involving a few small injections applied to the face. Results are usually seen within two to seven days and last for three to four months. Botulinum toxin (Botox®) treatment is very effective when used in conjunction with dermal fillers.

How does it work?

By using facial muscles repeatedly throughout our lifetime, the skin is creased in areas of greatest use, such as crow’s feet around the eyes, frown lines and forehead creases. Collagen and elastin give younger skin flexibility, so that the creases only occur temporarily with facial movement (dynamic lines). The aging process causes the production of collagen and elastin to slow down, so that as we get older these areas of overuse become less flexible and the lines become permanent (static lines).

The fine line reduction treatment reduces the movement of muscles in these areas. The skin is no longer creased and is allowed to recover, causing lines to soften or even fade away completely.

Is it safe?

Botox® has been used safely in the medical field since 1945 and is now injected in many different procedures, including cosmetics.

What can I expect during the consultation?

Initially, you will be asked to provide a thorough medical history to ensure that you are suitable for fine line reduction treatment. Dr Kathy Rainsbury will discuss with you how fine line reduction can best be used to meet your needs.

A tiny needle is then used to inject the Botox® solution into your chosen areas. The entire procedure takes approximately ten minutes and discomfort is minimal and brief. You may have some mild redness after the treatment, which settles after a few hours. Slight bruising can occur, which you can cover with makeup. Avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen and alcohol prior to the treatment and soon after will minimise the risk of bruising.

You can go back to normal life afterwards, although we advise you to avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, sunbeds, hot tubs and hot showers for 24 hours after treatment.
