Dermal Fillers

For deeper lines and facial contouring

Dermal Fillers Malvern, Cheltenham and Worcester

Dermal fillers are used to soften and contour deeper lines, folds and wrinkles, especially in areas where fine line reduction is less suitable.

What are fillers?

The most commonly used dermal fillers are based on Hyaluronic Acid (HA). This is a naturally occurring substance found in the body which helps hydrate and add volume to our skin. Results are immediate and last between six to twelve months.

How do they work?

Naturally occurring HA decreases with age. The dermal filler solution is injected into the skin to add volume, rehydrate skin and create a more youthful appearance. Dermal fillers are an ideal solution for patients wanting to soften deep lines from the mouth to nose area, lip lines, enhance thin lips, create a more defined lip border and to lift the corners of the mouth.

At GERTIES we use Juvederm Ultra and Belotero, which are two of the newest ranges of fillers, and help to produce a smoother contour. Fillers can also be used to enhance cheek bones, improve dark circles under the eye and subtly re-shape your nose and chin.

Is it safe?

We have come a long way since fillers were first introduced – not only are techniques better, the substance injected is entirely different. The risks are very minimal. The filler substance can even be dissolved away with a special injection, should it really be needed.

What can I expect during the consultation?

A full medical history will be taken during the consultation and the proposed treatment will be discussed extensively.

A local anaesthetic cream is then applied to the areas to be treated, making the procedure more comfortable. GERTIES also offer a dermal filler with an inbuilt anaesthetic. Dr Kathy Rainsbury can offer advice on which filler is most suitable for you.

The filler is then injected into the face with a very fine needle, instantly lifting the skin, smoothing lines and adding volume.

You may have some slight redness after the treatment, which normally settles after a few hours. Occasionally minimal bruising can occur, which you can cover with makeup. Avoiding aspirin, ibuprofen and alcohol prior to the treatment and soon after will minimise the risk of bruising.

The treatment takes about an hour and you can go back to normal life afterwards, although we advise you to avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, sun beds, hot tubs and hot showers for 24 hours after treatment.
